Heya, I've been running my junky 2" lift for awhile, but then I wanted to go bigger because of one of the problems I had on my last outing..

The plan so far has been to swap in a narrowed D44 which is already purchased, Im planning on buying a Detroit Tru-Trac Limited Slip for the front as well as running 4.88 gears for my 35x12.50 TrXuS MTs or a set of BFG MTs, havent quite made up my mind on the meats yet. Rims'll be simple steelies, probably black because Im thinking of blacking out my truck someday, and the rear diff will be a 9" I got from a 1970 F100, which means its already the right length, and already has the 5x5.5 bolt pattern that the D44 has. I'll also be throwing in a Detroit Tru-Trac in the rear (Its my daily driver, and I cant stand my buddies truck that has a locker in the rear) 4.88s... Spring over in the rear more than likely, unless I find a more attractive way to get rid of the shock mounts in the rear.

Overall I think it'll be 6-6.5" of lift all around, I'll be removing my 2" BL, and hopefully I can decide on a design for my front and rear bumpers, but those'll be fabbed after the lift is complete so I can see how much approach I can sacrifice for my winch.

Well, my phone just rang and now I cant think... So, yeah, thats the plan so far, if anyone has any suggestions that'll be cool. Oh, steering... What does everyone else use? The D44 came off a Bronco I believe.. Do you just use Early Bronco steering components?

I'm building my steering links from DOM tubing and using heims on the ends. Nice, strong setup.

Were the 1970 F100s narrower than the 73+? I thought they were always that 65-66ish width (which would mean your 9" is wider than your narrowed d44). Am I wrong about that?

The 1970 9" I have is 1" wider than my narrowed D44, so it shouldnt be to big of a deal. I just think its awesome because I scored the 9" for free and its good to go. I'll replace the seals and rebuild it and stuff still.. But its free :D Cost me $500 to get the D44 and for the rebuild, so that wasnt all that bad either. The guy I bought the D44 from is the person who'll be getting me all my parts and doing the fab work, so hes been cutting me some pretty decent deals because he knows how much money I'm giving him in the end anyways. Besides, he loves what he does, so its just another excuse to semi-ignore the usual every-day repairs he has to do with peoples normal vehicles that they bring to his off-road shop lol

sounds like a good setup! For the steering...if the tie rod is still good I would use that and use the stock explorer drag link (centerlink) whatever you call it! Not sure if thats possible on your setup but I know some SAS'ers go that route! I'm planning on doing that for now and then order some of the bulletproof steering system!

with this setup you have to take measurements and give them the info!
