Service referral in San Francisco?

Now that I'm out of warranty and extended warranty, there seems little reason to keep on hassling with the inconvenience of the local dealership.

Can anyone recommend (preferably from personal experience) a good place to take my 96 4.0 in San Francisco for ongoing maintenance and service? Quality and competence are more important than price.
