I got some new used tires this past weekend..some 30x10.5x15...

they really look great

however at about 60 mph they have a bad shake in the back left.

my question is...that since I know I need rear shocks, could that be causing a hopping? My crappy bald tires didnt shake at all.

or could this be a bad tire or a bad balance? It doesnt seem to have any balancing weights on the side in question, which I find odd for a used tire

I want to know what to expect when I go back to the guy

if it is a bad tire, maybe I could just replace one. I love how they look and fill the space

...My guess would be a bad balance/ no balance on a tire or lug nuts did not get tighten properly...:dunno:

bad balance first thought, have it checked, maybe have tire moved 90* on wheel and try again to balance. have tire runout checked for out of round.

I hope thats all. i would even be ok with bad shocks causing it, since I know I have to replace them... I am going back over there after work. thanks!

bump....

i am thinking that since the shake doesnt start till about 55-65, could it be bad shock in rear? could the tire be hopping?

It's not your shocks. The ballance is off.

Agree on wheel balance. While you are there, remind the mechanic not to over torgue the lugs. Doing so can result in warped rotors.

If you swap positions of the rear tires and shake moves to other side, the shock question is answered and the problem is balancing or the tire itself.

its hard to tell which side its coming from. it was hard enough to figure its in the back...my butt was shaking as well as my hands, just a little more. In the past, I had a cupping problem in the back on the left...so I figured this might just be tires with actual tread feeling rough

I will have my tire guy swap the,,,thats what I paid him for
:)

I just picked up 2 KYB monomax's for the back for $25 total...NIB....woohoo

update: took truck back in. They re-balanced the rear tires. Its much better but still there. Now I think if they re-balance the front, it will be good..couldnt do it yesterday as I had to go ot second job

I suspect they didnt balance at all in first place
