My 95 Explorer is shaking really bad when I turn the steering wheel to the right or left..bad enough so that it is undrivable. I checked the power steering level and it appears to be fine. Every 3rd or 4th attempt to start the car also fails..The engine never catches..This all started happening today and being that it's a Holiday weekend, it has me stuck at home twiddling my thumbs..Any idea what this could be? Power steering pump issues? Please Help!

Thanks

is it only when your turning the stearing wheel that the engine struggles? or is the stearing wheel just what you see shaking about need more info

It is shaking when I turn the wheel to the right or left but only when the car is still. As soon as I acelerate the shaking tones down a little. My father seems to think I need a new power steering pump. Could this be right? Generally what are the signs that you have a failing power steering pump? Also, is it difficult to install?

Thanks!

Do you hear a loud air noise under the hood? Check the vacuum hose tree on the intake. There is one at the back that likes to fall off causing wierd idle.

a possibility would be the box as the pump is working and not locked up. you can also rreplace just the presure relief valve srewed into the pump at the fliud press hose. its actualy fastened to the pressure relief valve. it is the 1 inch [i think]pipe thing screwed into the back of pump.then the 5/8 pressure hose screws into it. ... just go pick one up at a bone yard maybe even a few of them you dont really need to pay for them they will fit securly into pockets. know if that doesnt fix it do not replace the pump i would really look into binding linkage or the box. mainly because the engine have stalling issues makes me think that the pump is really beign resisted and requesting much more power to do its job witch is not avail at lower rpms. .. the pump is not to hard you will need a powerstearing pump pulley puller to get the pulley off. and carefull not to damage the resavior it most likey has to be reinstalled with the new pump .and so will the pulley.
