I have a shift kit in my tranny. I also have all the heavy duty internal upgrades. The difference with the shift kit is like night and day. Definately worth doing it!

Also, If you don't have a tranny cooler, put one in. It will make a huge difference in the life of your tranny. Go as big as you can on the cooler.

I put a "Kit" in my other vehicle ( a 98 Trans Am ). Made a huge difference. I also put in a heavy duty valve body from a police intercepter, Kevlar bands and redline clutches.

When the time comes for a new tranny in my Explorer it will also see heavy duty parts plus the "Kit" 171K miles and still going.

What shift kits do you guys recommend? I have a 94 Explplorer Automatic. I think the one I looked into once was a B&M... but even the rep couldnt help me. They had no idea what it would do for my car. Sigh. Suggestions?

sounds like cheap insurance...

I've been wondering about a shift kit for my '91. In addition to the performance improvement, I'm happy to hear that it can reduce tranny fluid temp. Zooming up these Colorado mountain hiways, I've already boiled over out the vent tube. It was a mess.
Question though... I've seen listings of transmission models #'s: 80-92 w/AOD and 89'97 w/E4OD. I'm not sure which one I have. Any help?
The basic shift improver kit (B&M) is about $30 at Carparts.com. They also have a "Transpak" for $63 which includes options for two stages of shift "improvement". Other than that, I'm not sure of any other differences in the two kits other than the price. Anyone else have these kits or others?
Thanks,

I have a transgo...Very happy with it, firmer shift, but it doesn't break your neck....only time will be the true test on how much this helped for the life of the tranny.

Sorry al...when I had my tranny rebulit the last time, they put it in for me.
