02 explorer can't shift out of park

Have you had any issues leading up to this?

Brake light switch or solenoid on the shift linkage may be bad.

check the fuse. i have seen that be the cause of not being able to shift out of park.

also, you can get a poker or screwdriver and push in the manual release on the bottom of the column to get you going until you figure it out.
