shifting problems

I recently bought a 92 ex 4x4.. the tranny shifts smooth when driving easy but if i mash on it to accelerate faster it will kick down and rev to 4000 rpm and the is sluggish in shifting back up again ... would this be a modulator or a governer problem? the tranny was replaced a little over a year ago. not to many miles on it since then .. it is an a4ld .. but not sure if it shifts with solonoids or hydrolics .. any suggestions?

1ST GEN{UP TO A '94} ARE HYDRALIC. Could be partialy a modulater,but sounds kinda like kick down cable for passing gear to me.also I would change fluid and filter most people don't do it to often but mine are always once a year on everything.A dirty filter is never a good thing.
