Hi all,
I have searched and have not found anything solid. I have a 98 Explorer with the 4.0 SOHC. 5r55e tranny. Rebuilt about 25k miles ago. This weekend I was staying in a cabin on a mountain and the first day shifting to 1 worked fine, great engine braking, etc. Day 2 I drop it into 1 as I am building speed and nothing, just seems to be in neutral. No lights, etc. Rev it as it coasts downhill and it catches and then let off and seems like neutral again. Shifts fine through out the entire range and again, no light. I have driven it like this for about 150 miles now and all is fine except for braking in 1. 2 works.
I suspect the valve gasket has blown out but all other gears are fine. Can they blow out and exhibit this behavior? I scanned for pending trouble codes and there was nothing.
Thanks,
Rob
Also want to add, when cold it will brake in 1. After about 4 to 5 minutes it goes out into neutral feel again.
