2020 Ford Explorer ST
I was stopped in a turn lane at a light waiting for it to change. My daughter told me that the vehicle was in reverse as shown by the shifter knob. The back up camera was not on. Had I not been told this I would have hit the car behind me when the light changed. Shifted in to drive and every thing normal. This a 2020 ST with around 18 K miles It has been reported to NHSA and been to the dealer last friday who has been in contact with Ford They told me there have been problems with drive by wire shifters in various models and years. And they did not think I was carzy.

I always use Auto Hold at stops. Were you using it or was your foot on the brake?

I thought Auto Hold only worked on steep inclines?

I LOVE auto-hold! My first vehicle with that feature. It allows you to take your foot off the brake at stops. All you have to do is tap the gas to go forward. It engages after coming to a complete stop and you can take your foot off the brake. There's a green indicator on the instrument panel telling you it's engaged. You're thinking of Hill Descent Control which is for inclines.

As mentioned, it holds anytime the vehicle is stopped. I disabled it on mine because I found it too intrusive.

My 21 ST had an issue where it would try and put the trans in park. The first day I got it, I drove home and loaded it up to had to my dads. It is a 250 mile trip. I was doing about 75 on the freeway and all of the sudden I lost all power. I pulled over but was on a long bridge, so I just let it coast. As I got off the bridge I pulled over and slowed the car down. At about 25 it sounded like I was trying to put that car in park as it was moving (just a lot louder and faster). As it got slower the tires skidded to a stop. it was a Sunday about 9pm, in the middle of no where (no phone service). Check to see if the tranny was on the ground, but all looked ok. It started up and drive so, I kept on with my trip. On the way back home I was on pins and needles all the way. I got about a mile from my exit, and it did it again. Drove it home and took it to the dealer in the morning. They ended up replacing the whole tranny. the issue has not come back.

I’d get a camera mounted inside the car, so if you do end up inadvertently backing into someone it shows it’s the car that’s at fault, and Ford can pay for any damages that occur.
