I need to replace my shocks? Can I get a recomendation on brands/models/etc?

Also what is required to do this myself? If possible I would prefer not to pay $200+ if it's worth it to do it myself.

What's different for the front and back?

Also: I would like best street performance, as I am very rarely offroad.

Thanks.

Hi Amc_FtoSF, and welcome to the site.
Shocks are very easy to replace. All you need is some open end wrenches and some sockets regular and deep set in metric sizes. For the front you open up the hood and take off the top nut or nuts (some shock manufactures use 2 nuts, one as a locking nut against the other) off the top portion of the shock, jack up the truck on the side that you took off the top nut/s and pull the wheel. Then on the bottom side of the shock there are 2 nuts and bolts that have to come off. Once loose compress the shock and pull it out. Put the new one in reverse of the above. Do the same for the other side. The back isn't much harder. Take the spare off. You don't even have to jack up the back. I elected to remove the gas charcoal cannisters in order to get the the top bolts for the shock on the rear drivers side. Some people say they don't have to, but I did. All this should take you about 1 hour. Other than the stock shocks I have used the Edelbrocks and OME Nitro Chargers. both are very good shocks. Hope this helps

I have the Monroe Reflex shocks. About $40 each. Great ride and handling. The rock you get with the stock shocks when going into or out of a driveway is non-existant. There have also been some high marks given to the Gabriel VST's.

Shocks are real easy. Don't know what year you have but the replacement of the shocks on my rig was very easy. For the rear I removed the spare tire and jacked the back end up. I did shear the bolts off the lower bracket mount - this was the most difficulty I had. Front shocks were just a matter of jacking up the front end and removed the tires also. I put on the Monroe Reflex and am happy with the performance. Install took all of an hour or so. Members have used the Gabriel Pro Ryder VST, various Monroes, Edelbrock IAS, various Ranchos, and other models. If you still have questions, don't be afraid to ask, that is what this board is for.

Thanks for the suggestions. It doesn't sound hard at all. Mine's a 94.

I'll let y'all know how it goes after this weekend.

Thanks.
