Shock replacement issues

I think it would work for either hieght too, but there is a reason that ford made them what length they did, I just don't know what it is yet. So I will let you know if something breaks.

Just got them today. i am putting them on tonight! YIPPEE! This is my first dealing with a nice shock so I found it strange that unlike the other cheapos I have used these stay compresed and you have to pull them out, which makes sense to me. The ones that push you back up real fast would cause a rouger ride...(my best guess).

I will let you know how they ride tonight!:bounce:

OK. The shocks work with some modifications. Rear are fine, obviously, sice they are the ones made for it.

Front: To use these extended you must pop the bracket of the outer CV boot and slifde it down a little then put a new strap clamp on. I don't think it will be a big deal. The reason it that the 95+ X's have a funky shock that is specific only to us. At the bottom shock mout the cylinder has a bout a 4" stud between it and the mount to allow clearance of the boot. I will let you know if I have anyproblems with it.

But, it will be a little while, being the big dumn a** that I am :shoot: I punctured the Outer boot and must now replace it. So my X is out of commission for the time being since I don't want to ruing the CV joint. It looks pretty major to pull that axel shaft off and replace the boot! ANyone ever done this? I was much more careful on the passenger side. Guess I was too excited by my new shocks.

OK almost done!

Got the front on and I will post pics of the moved CV boot and the fit tomorrow.

As for the rear, I had to grind off the bottom bolts so I couldn't finish today. Need new bolts. I will let you all know tomorrow. and post pics!

Taxxman2k, I was wondering how the front shocks turned out. Did you ever get any pic's posted?

They are working really well. I have some film that I am waiting on. I will post a pic when I get it. They are really holding up. The only downside is that without the shock limiting the travel, when you wheel it you can put more stress on the CVs and the control arms, but that is an acceptable risk to me.

:bounce: Can't wait for the pic's!:bounce:

was there ever any feedback about the quality of the 9000 vs the 5000? I think I would like the adjustable shock but I don't know if you could tell much of a difference?

I can tell a tremendous difference in the shocks on different settings. At 5 towing a heavy load and wheelin is great but cruisin down the road gives me cramps from all the bouncy bouncy! at 1 it is too mooshy for my taste, but I run the front at 3 - 4 and rear at 3 on the road. It is nice since the rear is so much lighter.

Moving the boot works much better with after market boots such as the ones I got from NAPA, they are a little sturdier and have less of the accordian like bends. If this process I replaced all four boots. If you are more comfortable with a welder check out the job GJarrett did on his rig, buy cutting the bottome mounting shaft thingy and welding a 1 inch extension on it.

I dunno if you said but wat part number did u get for the rear and what is the extended length

the ones for the rear are same as factory length. I took my shocks off and jacked up one tire all the way. Once I took the fexed measurements they were the same as the stock shocks.

Rear: (same as stock)
RS9185 - 16" fully compressed, 26" full length
