I've lowered my Ex about 3-4 inches in front, and 2-3 inches in back. Of course now my stock shocks are starting to go really bad (bouncy bouncy). I've heard of D... somethin Slammer Shocks, if you know the brand please tell me, i don't remember it except that it starts with a D and sounds weird. Apparently they don't make shocks specificly for the explorer, but if I know what sizes i need i can get it. I was hoping you smart people on here would know the specifications on the shocks. I'm pretty sure both ends are open, but as for measurements I have no clue, could you help me out?

I know the company you are referring to, its something like Dotech.

anyone?

dont know how old this is, but found it searching. The shocks you are thinking of are Doetsch Tech Nitro Slammers. You have to measure the shock lenght, and its a pain to try to measure it....
http://www.doetsch-shocks.com

Do you have experience with these? Does anyone know about their quality, i still NEED new shocks that are at least slightly stiffer and shorter.

well ive been making calls to them a lot in the past couple of days. Im having trouble getting underneath my truck to measure the shocks, because im lowered so far i cant reall get under it, and i cant see the top of the shock. I have a rough measurement of 16" up front and 19" in back, but the guy i called from DT said you wanna be exact so the shocks are on target. They run like 38 bucks a piece for a custom made shock, and everything ive heard about em was good stuff. A guy from EU (dozure was his name) had DT's on and old school x dropped 5/6 and he said he loved them, and he had monroes and edelbrocks on before the DTs. The price is a lot better on the DTs compared to edelbrock as well. If i can ever get an accurate measurement of my front shock, im going to order these bad boys.

sweet, i'm not that low i could probably get under mine thanks for the info

you're lower than me! Although my problem is my running boards, and the fact my car is covered in snow and salt and i dont like getting that all over me.

I just go up on running boards to get under some of the running board. I can still get under the back bumper and front some to move around, but i'm also pretty small and flexable.

i'm just posting here so that i can get updates on these shocks if you guys do it. i'm very interested in them as well. sounds like you guys need some more tools so you can get under your truck a little better.

Alright i just placed my order!!
Get this - $174.99 Shipped!
Shipping should take 4-5 days, they can custom make shocks in a day.
Edelbrocks were going to cost me around 300 and were made for explorers only lowered 1.5". These are CUSTOM made exactly for my lowered 1995 Ford Explorer Sport. I cant wait to see how they ride, i've heard nothign but good about them. Nitrogen filled :)
If you want to order the shocks, ill save you guys some hassle. They changed aroudn their numbers a bunch of times, and the correct number is 1-888-800-8314 and just tell them you want to custom order some Doetsch Tech Nitro Slammers.

Also check my website to see how i measured my shocks, but basically i took the wheel off, put a jack underneath the middle of my front axle, and another jack underneath my suspension arm, and made the axle and arm at the same height as if the wheel was on, only the wheel is missing so you have plenty of room to measure. Good stuff. I got 15.5" in front and 19.25" in the back if you want to compare measurements.

I have the tools, just takes more time to drag them out, use them, put them away... its a pain :)

where did you measure on the shock? For the back: just the tube on mine is 17 1/2 or 18 1/2 if you measured from the holes on the end.

The front... I can't tell where the top part connects, it looks like it goes up into the wheel well

ok the fronts are 15 1/2 from connecting point to connecting point. What type of connection is that called on the top of the front shocks? where it just kinda bolts onto that piece of metal rather than having an "eye" as i call it??

dunno what its called, but it doesnt matter. You just tell em what year explroer you have and they can figure that out for you. All you need to know is shock length with all the weight on it. I did to where the shock hit the metal part at the top (there is a black bushing above and below it) and measured down from it. Same with the back.

i think i difference in back shocks makes sense because im only a 2 door. i think your measurements sound right on.

The first time i called that number (to get a price estimate) the guy looked it up and everything and said they were there and would be about 180 - 200 shipped. Today when i called, this guy tells me that they don't make the nitro slammers for the front on our explorers. what the crap? nnnick, did you ever get your shocks?

sorry ive been meaning to update, im gonna make a thread when mine finaly come in. Yes they dont make the nitros for explorers....so i ordered the doetsch tech 3000's custom ordered. final price 174.99 shipped. they cant make the nitro slammers because the front is upside down with the strut or something, kind of sucks. But i went and got the 3000s anyway cuz i need shocks and ive heard good things about DT. They should come in this week, and i hope to install them before christmas break is over. Once their in, i will make a thread about how they ride and tips on ordering and whatnot. Sorry i didnt post sooner bout that. They took like 2 weeks to tell me they couldnt make the front in nitrogen, but for u they must have known cuz it was shortly after my struggle.

oh yeah the guy i talked to said the only difference is mine dont have nitrogen, but it shouldnt be that big of a deal. The only other shocks i could find for that price were some KYB Monomax's on ebay, and those aren't nitrogen either, and made for stock height X's. So at least these are the right length....
