I am getting ready to put 32-11.50R15's on my 1996 XLT, and was wondering what success others have had with aftermarket shocks and the torsion/shackle lift. I have contacted both Rancho and Edelbrock, and neither could recommend the use of their standard 1996 Explorer shocks on a vehicle lifted 2" due to the damage that could do to the stock length shock.

Neither Rancho or Edelbrock make a shock for the 96 with a 2" longer span.

Has anyone else on this site tried another aftermarket shock with the 2" torsion lift and had success?

Thanks for your help.
Jeff

I go Edelbrocks on mine and they are incredibly great. They minimize body roll and the typical Explorer tumble (at speedbumps and stuff like that) I've had them for a few months now and got them after doing my torsion twist and shackles, and no problems at all.

Don't worry about it. The only thing I do recommend to you is that if you are planning on getting the Trailmaster 4" lift when its available, then don't buy after market shocks, and save that money to put towards the lift.

Good luck!!

I'm getting ready to the whole Warrior Twist. Do I need to replace my shocks? Do I need the increased travel? Also, where can I get the shackles?

Andy,
No you don't have to replace the shocks.
Desert Rat in Arizona sells them. Do a search for warrior shackles and you can find the price and part number, also the phone number to order.
Jeff,
2" might be too much. This is one of those things that you have to try and see. For most off us 1.5" was all we could get without causing problems.

As stated above you will be fine running stock shocks. I just did the tt/shackles and had no shock related issues.
