I got the Rancho rs 5000s. I like them. You can sometimes find a 40 or 50 dollar rebate on rancho shocks, not sure if there is currently a promotion. I got mine with that rebate, and bought them on advance autos site using the coupon code "VISA", it saves you 50 off 150. Not sure if that will yield the best price, but its worth a check. I'd also price it up on rockauto with the discount code.
The bilsteins are supposed to be really nice shock, but they are pricey.
Ive heard multiple, very good reviews for the Rancho RS5000's, and I'm also planning on getting either those or some Pro-Comp Shocks. I am in dire need of new shocks. Watch for deals on 4wheelparts.com or summitracing, or other websites.
I had ranchos for the longest time and I actually liked how stiff they were. If you're looking for best bang for your buck without adjustability get either the ranchos or the bilstiens. If you want adjustability then get the rancho rs9000s. Either choice is really good decision any how. Good luck!
Monroe Sensa Tracs are very good, I had them on my old '05 Trac which I did off-road occasionally.
I found out when I got shocks for my daughter's Jeep that the NAPA store brand shocks are really Sensa Tracs, just painted blue and half the price, like $17 each.
What is the difference between the stock height and the 1 - 2.5 in on those Ranchos. Was checking their website and it came up with both options for our trucks. Surely you can't just add longer shocks and get height without doing anything else. Is that just for trucks that already have suspension lifts?
I had the 9000XL's on mine with thw MyRide Wireless Remote System, I bought the "1-2.5in" shocks and found out there's no difference in length from the stock height ones.
If it's primarily a daily driver/ weekend trailin' rig then just get the Napa shocks like JohnnyO said. I have the Monroe's on now and they aren't any different in ride quality then the 9000's were, just don't have the adjustability for towing, etc...
Save your money on the shocks and build up other key components or do routine maintenance like the front/ rear diff fluids, transfer case fluid, trans, balljoints, tie rod ends, u-joints, hub bearings. All the things people don't think of doing until it's too late.
I use Bilstein. They are well controlled on the road and don't over heat during moderate off-roading. They aren't cheap but usually last a good long time. They have a million mile warranty. I however, am not impressed by there durability in this application. Don't get me wrong. I have 150k miles on mine but they are showing some fade. I suppose most people could put on a set and never need another. I do recommend these.
