I'm looking at an Explorer for sale on a local forum I belong to. It's a 2005 XLT 4x4 Advance trac, 4.0L, 3rd row seating, 76k miles. It had a fender, hood and bumper cover replaced and due to a mild accident. Air bags didn't deploy. Current owner has driven it for 2.5 years without any trouble and just upgraded to a newer V8 Explorer so this apparently needs to go. I drove it today and was nice and tight. It looks fantastic too. I told him i'd get back with him by tomorrow. $7k

Please advise,
Barry

That's a pretty far price for the amount of miles and it's also 4x4. I bought my 2004 Ford Explorer XLT 2wd for 10k had 82k when I bought it. Bought it from the Used Dealer ship over private sellers because it had the best looking interior, no accidents, and exterior was fine. The only problem I ran into was it needed new tires and rotors/pads.

Sounds like a solid deal considering the year/mileage/price. I went looking for a 4.6L and am happy with what I found, but certainly would have been tempted if a deal like yours came up to settle with the 4.0L!

I just worry about the transmission in these. This one seems fine but you never know.

Id also worry about the transmission. Mine went at 88k. acquired the truck at 69k. So far between 69k and 88k and 1 year of driving i have replaced 3 wheel bearings, 3 axle seals and the transmission. paid 13k for my 04 69k mi, 4x4 eddie bauer. Hoping no more repairs for another 100k... lol.

It's a fair price, but put the extra money away for repairs. I bought mine with 42k for $7k. It's an 02' EB. Love it but have replace 3 WB's and am looking at replacing clutch packs. That mileage seems to be where the problems begin.
