i was parked in a parking garage last night only to find that some mother f**ker hit my mirror and left it dangling only by the wire. ive found several replacements for $50 but my question is if its hard to install on your own, or should i just buy the replacement and take it to a shop?

That was you?? I'm sorry man... Kidding with you. Yes it's very easy to replace. Remove the inside door panel, pop off three bolts and put on the new one.

Because you are already replacing one, now might be the time to upgrade to the larger 2006 & newer mirrors that several people have done. Here is a link to a discussion to get you started if you are interested.

Oooh, tempting! :)

Just a word of advice: leave the window down while you unbolt the mirror :) Or have someone hold the mirror. And have a couple extra bolts in case one falls inside the door.

so what abot the wiring, or will it be pretty much obvious what to do when i remove the panel?

It's one plug... three bolts. I have a pic, hold on a second.
