What year do u have?
How big is the amp?

why does it matter, just wondering?? its a 93xlt and a 560 watt amp

The good news is: "It doesn't matter!" If you're using it like a switch so you can work on your amp, that is. If you want to protect the whole run of wire from the battery to the amp (and keep the car from catching fire), put it right near the battery. If you leave the in-line fuse in, it'll probably blow-out before the circuit breaker trips; circuit breakers are slow, compared to fuses. Have fun...

Well, from the best of my knowledge, ya wanna keep the circuit breaker with in 18 inches of your battery. If ya install a circuit breaker, you're gonna wanna remove the inline fuse cause it will be useless and will probably blow quite often. Hope I helped ya.

If your fuse is blowing frequently, you don't want to just remove it. If it blows, you probably have a problem. Your breaker could take the place of the fuse, but if you just want an on/off switch I would leave the fuse. I would put a switch on the dash somewhere. If you have a fuse, then you don't need a breaker, you could just use a switch. It may be easier to just put the circuit breaker in place of the fuse though.

Well, if the fuse keeps blowing there is one solution that I've tried and it worked. The fuse kept blowing in my brothers Caddy and what we did was up the size of the power cable and fuse from an 8 ga. to a 4 ga. The fuse went to a glass style fuse in a waterproof case and I belive we had a 60 amp in it. Now his amp also has a fuse built into it. I don't know that it is all that safe to do this method unless you have a built in fuse. But I thought I'd try and offer some more of my assistance. Hope I helped.

What fuse are you running? Replace the fuse if the circuit breakers amperage is close enough to that of the fuse. What kind of fuse holder are you using? It should not be that hard to pull it. What you really want is to be able to say that you have a circuit breaker for your system, right? (jk) How often do you work on the amp?

ok, its all streetwire stuff size 8 wire with a 40 amp fuse, i'm not having any problems blowing fuses at all i just want to add a circit braker my frind has one and he also has a fuse in line, i was just wondering were outher ford explorer owners mounted the circit braker under the hood, he uses it just as like a safty when he is working on the amp you just push a little red button and it clicks down and you can work on the amp it does not affect the fuse at all, thanks

Does Streetwires make a 40 or 50 amperage circuit breaker? If you have the money go for it. Where did your friend mount his. Mine is mounted on the inner fender. Hope this helps.

Circuit Breakers suck. Don't use them. There are other items out there for your battery if you just want something to disconnect the power from the battery. They have a very large failure rate, either from when they're supposed to blow, or just from a car being jostled.

I have a cylindrical fuse in a waterproof case. When I want to work on the stereo, all I have to do is unscrew one of the sides.

If your fuse isn't blowing, I would leave it the way it is. Like someone else said, put a switch on your dash for the amp. That's what I did. I put the amp switch, and my light and horn switches in place of the factory Kleenex dispenser. It looks really good and I did the wiring in 45 minutes.
