We live near the Washington border (so Blaine Bellingham Point Roberts geo area) in White Rock.

Constant no signal issue, works ok when we're in Alberta, 3,000 ft higher and more inland to the continent. Even works mostly through the Rockies!

Can we swap out for a higher gain Sirius antennae? Same issue when on Vancouver Island. Maybe the signal weakens at the outer edges of the continent but I'm only guessing at that.

The FM pulls in Bellingham radio HD and sometimes even Seattle.

Appreciate your input on this frustrating $5/month (Cdn) flushing down the toilet issue.

Thanks!
Gord

bump bump not sure about with car antennas since no shortage of stations in LA (except country it seems) overall like the taller antennas better than the shark fin style as far as getting long range reception with the CB and GMRS. but 0.1292208871 (the lower side of the XM band) is about .1m, so i cant imagine reception ebbing an issue given the height of the shark fins though. not much experience wit the XM, mainly with ammeter radio.

You have an amateur (ham) radio license?

dont currently hold one, just a GMRS one, but have worked w/ ham under the guidance of others with a license

You have a 2018 sport, arguably you should post this in the Sync 3 section. That said, the factory antenna is a patch antenna with a GPS patch antenna sitting on top of it under the shark fin. These two antenna signals are sent down the same wire and split by a bandpass filter under the dash. Unfortunately because of this messing with one will mess with the other so you can't just change it for a better antenna. My first suggestion would be pull out the radio and passengers footwell kick panels and check the connections. Beyond that you might pull the rear headliner down and check that connection then check the condition of the shark fin itself if no changes, the covers have been known to be easy to knock off (the metal base screws into plastic studs in the shark fin part) if it's partially broken it may be getting water inside which obviously would cause corrosion. Beyond that the ACM (radio reciever), wiring and shark fin antenna are the only components in the "system" so presumably there's a problem with one of those 3.

Thread has been moved.
