OK guys, you finally broke me down! I am going to lift my X, but only by 2". Is this skyjacker kit a suspension lift or a body lift? I found the 2" kit cheap on 4wheelparts.com for like $175 otfd. How many other parts are required? The free shipping is only until Sunday so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks all!
Greg

Also, does that kit include the rear springs, or is it just for the front? In other words, is this 175 dollar kit self-standing or is it going to require a $1000 by the time I'm all done?
Thanks
Greg

You will still need to have the front end aligned. And adjustable camber bushings.
It is a suspension lift that includes front coils and rear springs. I also put on longer shakles and a ubolt to hold the spring pack together.

Now I heard that steering components would also be required, even for just a 2" lift. Looking into how much this will realistically cost, I probably will wait. It kinda sucks that I'll have to wait, but I'm really starting to save up for med school. Thanks for the reply though!

i have the skyjacker 2" lift. the only thing you need is what comes with the lift and an alignment after you install it. you do not need new shocks or any steering parts. it will cost you 175 for the lift and between about 80 to 150 dollars for the alignment.

Redrig-
Did you notice any change in steering? Did it become softer, less responsive or anything of that nature? Also, when you installed the 3" BL, did the steering column lower in the interior? Someone told me that the steering column is connected to the frame and will thus lower as the body is raised. Any problems with the BL?
Thanks!
Greg

no it did not change my steering at all with the skyjacker lift. and my steering column after bl did not lower in the cab. the angle of your steering shaft changes with the bl. a knuckle to correct this comes with the bl for a first gen explorer. that is the only problem i had, even after the new knuckle my steering had a stiff spot for awhile but then eventually its hardly noticable.

to elaborate, most 91-92 have a regular u-joint that can accomidate the new angle. most 93-94 have more of a rag joint that will hang up in certain places but the joint can be broken in after a few thousand miles. options for that if you dont want to break it in are to either replace with a 91-92 shaft, or use the shaft extension included with some BL kits.....PA in particular. the trailmaster kit does not have the shaft extension included, but if you find that you need it, they will send you one.

thread regarding this

After that guy said the steering wheel would be a different angle, I just knew I'd have to ask the experts. ;)
I think after seeing all of this, I might just go for either an add a leaf in the back to get rid of the "sag butt" syndrome, or the 2" lift. I'd prefer the 2" lift as it would definitely give me more clearance, but then I'd probably want to replace my tires for some 31"s...hmmm... Maybe some sleep will help. ;)
Thanks!!!
Greg

2" lift: 150

OR:

AAL/SHACKLE/coil spacers: 40/50/40 :130

OR:

3" BL 90

i personally am going to combine options b and c....c is alreday done.

thread regarding this

this may work for some 91-92 BUT i had to put the extension on mine.

jsut letting you know

did you have teh rag joint like me? it was a pin w/o it for a while but its fine now...took about 4k to break in.

like i said, in general....maybe it has to do with where they were built...maybe there were 2 build locations.

PEACE

i could be a little mistaken too..my experience is wit hteh rag joint....the info about the u-joint was based on site research....

Thanks for all the advice guys. I just have one more question, if I were to install two leaf springs, would it lower my body or would the kit and kaboodle get elevated. I have a bet riding on this question so...agree with me:D
I said that it would elevate the vehicle, whereas it was also proposed that because it is an under axle spring pack, it would raise the frame but lower the body Who's right on this one? I'm still confused.
BTW- I'm just thinking about putting some smaller shackles in the rear as they would be relatively inexpensive and it would suffice my lift craze until all my schooling is done and gone. Thanks!!!
Greg

Well, thanks for all the advice guys. I just bought war-153 shackles so hopefully that will satisfy the lift for a little while...:D
Any suggestions? Is it relatively easy to do?
Thanks!
Greg

Body Lift?

Redrig,

I'm also interested in getting a Skyjacker 2" lift, and perhaps a 2"-3" body lift. When you installed your body lift, did you have to get extended brake lines or make any other changes besides the steering knuckle?

Also, are there folks out there that sell materials to hide the gaps between bumper and body? I presume the bumper brackets for the body lifts impact the bumper height. I've got front tow hooks that I'd hate to have to remove or replace b/c of a body lift.

Anyhow, thanks for your info!

i know they werent addressed to me but i figuresd i would ghive it a shot.

1) no extended brake lines necessary althou, you must install the bracket for the e-brake (or disconnect it)
2) they are called gap guards and they do exist, though i havent seen them inperson, just online i think PA makes them
3) the bumper brackets will bolt to the frame where th ebumper would and then provides a pount for the bumper top bolt to, just higher. depending on where/how you have your tow hooks, you may have to re-mount them.

Ah somewhere to post my info........

I just completed my skyjacker 2" front lift on my 93 Sport. I bought a set of used 2" lift coils off ebay for $50. My buddy had the F1560 coil spacers AAL and warrior shackles on his truck with 32x11.5. before we did the 6" skyjacker lift on his.

I basically bought all of the stuff we took off his. I put the coil spacers on my 91 Sport under the 5.5" lift coils to level out the front. Going on my 93 Sport are the 2" lift coils a set of trailmaster shocks to allow more flex, on the rear goes a set of new leafs with AAL, warrior shackles and 1" wheel spacers. To top it off are 4 32x11.5 mud kings on stock deerhoof rims.

I am not getting any new camber shims I will see if I can adjust the camber myself. If not I have a set of Skyjacker 3.25" adjustable camber bushings from a Bronco II. They will probably be too much I bought them for my 91 Sport but when I added the F150 coil spacers to level the front with the rear the 2.25" camber bushings were useable again.

I will get pics up later.
