I'm replacing the clutch on my Ranger and need to get the line off the slave cylinder. The Haynes manual says I need a special tool. Do most auto parts stores have this tool? Or is there another way I can get it off? Thanks.

YEah I think they should have the tool. I think the Haynes says that doesn't it? If the local auot parts place doesn't have it, try your ford dealership to see if you can get one from them. I am needing to get my clutch replaced as well, and the person doing it for me is my friend's dad who owns a trucking company, so I am wondering if I need to buy this tool for him (since he is doing it for cheap). But, try Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts before you go to the dealership. But, if and when you find one, please post it here, or give me an e-mail and tell me where you found one and how much it was. Also, is a clutch alignment tool needed as well? I have seen those behind the counter at the auto parts stores and they don't seem to be that much, maybe $10. Hope you find everyhting.

You can get the special tool from Snap-On or MAC tool dealers. All you do with the tool is push in on the white plastic part of the line. The white plastic part will slide in and release the locking tabs inside the slave cylinder.

Hey slow-demon, do you know about how much the tool costs? Also, is there a place online that I may be able to get it at? I remember someone posting a site a while back that had some special tools for something someone wanted, but I can't remember what they needed it for to search for it. Anyone remember that? Thanks

Rock 883. I got mine from the local Snap-On toool dealer. But check out http://www.toolsource.com . Look under transmission tools, clutch tools. I looked and there are a few different brands priced below $20.

Thanks, I did a search on google, and found the site that I mentioned above. It is here: Dead Link Removed But, I can't find out where to buy it on there, I e-mailed them though. I will check out that site you listed. Thanks

I'm not sure cause i'm not looking at it, but could it be the same as the fuel line/filter tool. If it is any decent parts stores will carry these.
Keep us posted, I also am doing a clutch soon and would like to know.

tool

You can get it at any parts store...the motor-mite line of HELP! products has it i believe...but I just used a screwdriver to help it out of the tranny..no prob..but either way, be sure not to damage the connector..basically just get the little white ring out a bit and it comes off.
The tool probably makes this action easier, but its not absolutely necessary. Its a bigger problem putting in the new clutch line...heh maybe I got a ranger clutch?
