Hello everybody, I'm working on a friend's 03 explorer. The clutch slave cylinder is leaking, Is their a right up on how to replace the cylinder and bleed it? The vechile has 209,000 miles on it and it is a 4.0L 5 speed. Also is this a commom prolbem? And what would be the best cylinder to buy? I don't want to remove the transmissiom a second time. I appreicated all the help anybody can give me. Sorry I think I posted the questions in the wrong section. Chris

Started pulling the tranny, It looks like I need a speical tool to release the hyd. line. Or can something else be used? What is the best way to bleed the system? 03 ford explorer

Assuming it's the same setup as earlier years, I've used a small flat screwdriver and hammer to taptaptap around the white ring at the hyd line connection. Drive it in until you can't see it, then the line should pull apart.
I'd get the new slave from the dealer, part store slaves are not the best quality.
There's lots of different tricks to bleed the system, one good one is to unbolt the master cyl from the firewall and pedal, then tilt it up (opposite of mounted position) and pump it a couple times. It's an air pocket when it's mounted, unless they changed the design from previous years.
Do a search here for 'bleed clutch' if you need more tips and info.
