I have a '97 Ex, EB, 4WD, 4L/SOHC engine.
I have been chasing the problem in the title for a while.
Other than the idle, the beast runs beautifully.
Can anyone out there advise what the symptoms would be if the crankcase ventilation housing, located on the rear top of the engine were leaking?
This is the housing that the larger tube from the bottom of the PCV valve interfaces with. It's essentially impossible to see it without removing the intake manifolds. I think it's also buried under the wire loom for the injectors, etc.
I have replaced the upper and lower intake manifold seals, as well as a number of other parts such as the EGR and PCV valves. Based on other troubleshooting, I have all but eliminated a vacuum leak.
Before I pull the intake manifolds again, I'd like to know if a leak in the above housing could result in my symptoms.
Also, there's a hose between the right side valve cover and the large tube between the air filter and the throttle body. Does this hose contain a check valve, or similar? If it does, could a failure of it result in my symptoms?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dick
