Thought you guys might find these of interest. I'll let you know what they're like once they're in. These are rears, of course, the fronts are too good to junk. For anyone in the Banana Republic....sorry the UK, they came from Des Shelley in Wolverhampton and were £58.50 plus VAT each (that's US$103.00 each) .
You really have to like driving an Explorer I guess. It's no mystery why the car companies call the UK "Treasure Island"

While we're talking brakes here, what is the consensus on the plastic(?) brake cover that goes between the rim and the brake assembly to keep all that brake dust from collecting on your occasionally clean rims?
I try not to use brakes when possible, but slower cars tend to cause the need... and this particular new set on the front seems to be dusty.
Do you believe in them, have them installed, or should I just keep rinsing? :banghead:
Thanks in advance for your views

i think you need different pads.
i've been using performance friction from autozone for a couple of years and i never have the brake dust problem like i see on other vehicles. i see a lot of vehicles with the front wheels looking like black rockcrawlers due to so much dust.

Hi MeatyCrab,

It sounds like you've a serious RHD truck there. Do you have any more photos of the mods you've made and things you've fitted. I'm especially curious about that Shelf it thingy - like how much, from who, wheres it go, etc etc.

Theres very little available here specifically for the X or so it seems. If you drive a Mitsubishi L200 and want an electric ear wax remover someone somewhere will be selling them, but try getting an aftermarket brushguard,
(and before someone tells me Ford do one, I know, and they're £940.00 (US$ 1400))

cheers

Jon

Brake dust making the front wheels black? Doesn't anyone wash their Explorers anymore? My Explorer gets washed on a very regular basis and guess what? No brake dust.
