I noticed a smaller cooler under my 96 sport when I was changing my oil. I followed the cooling lines and it looks like it runs to the power steering. Is it a power steering cooler? If it is, why is it needed, does it really get that hot? Also has anyone added an aftermarket oil or transmission cooler, and how did you install it? Thanks for any help.

PunkChild,
I have a 92 and the smallest cooler in the front is the trans. cooler, behind that is the condensor for the A/C, and behind that, (closest to the engine), is the radiator.

Hope this helps,
FM

Jim,

The small cooler very could be a power steering cooler. In '93, Ford did not include them - I added my own. Yes, the fluid can get very hot. Cooling it can help the fluid and pump last longer.

As for the tranny cooler, if you have a 5-speed, you can't run an auxillary cooler - actually, you really wouldn't need one either.

I've never added an oil cooler - the added capacity would be nice, though.

Scott,
Check this site for a pan that will hold 3 more quarts of fluid, you can also get one with a drain plug, go figure!.
Check the "light trucks" link on the left of the page, Dead Link Removed they also have shift kits that are supposed to improve shifting for racing apps.

FM,

I've seen and used B&M stuff before. Usually pretty good products. Too bad they don't make a deep pan for the A4LD - I would like to have 3 more quarts of tranny fluid.
