I have had experience with both... Smartyparts basicly wouldnt send me the chip... I paid for it and everything... but he kept on "forgetting" about it. So finally I canceled my order and went with performance products. I paid just a little bit more I think... but not much... and it did show up right away.. however... he had told me that the chip would remove my top speed limiter, which it did not. Also, he was supposed to send me the form for a custom program, which didnt show up. But at least I didnt have to hound him to send me the chip!
I also purchased the chip from Mike Troyer after UNSUCCESSFULLY trying Smartypants after 3 weeks. I had great service and support from Mike. After my Christmas vacation (4 months after I purchased the chip) I noticed that part of my Superchip sticker had been scraped off (using an ice/snow scraper) by my brother who I left the truck with. I called Mike if I can get another replacement sticker. He sent me 3 new ones - no questions asked. What else can you ask for???
I cant answer that... being that I was sworn not to tell. Maybe someone else can. Personally, I dont feel a big diffrence in power... I would have to drive with and without a few times... but I think there might be a better pull at the top end... could just be me dreamin though.
I can REALLY feel the difference on my '97 SOHC. I took my Superchip out Monday to drop my Explorer off this morning for service and it definately feels anemic compared to the way it was prior to removing it. I also removed my K&N FIPK at the same time. Between the two there is a difference to be felt compared to without.
Yeah, the Superchip definitely makes a difference in my 98. As far as Smartyparts, thats where I got mine. I got it for around $175, and had it within 10 days (back in Nov/Dec).
Nope, I am only 17 and go to Troy High School, which right next to CSUF. You probably know of it. I have a champagne X w/ clear corners and a Forum sticker on the rear window. Do you know anyone that goes to CSUF that has a blue X and clear corners? That car inspired me to get the corners because they looked so good.
nope..dont know anyone with a blue explorer...i have clears all the way around..but only run with the front ones on. I use the rear when i want to show, but for most everything i run with the stock..I just dont need to be pulled over right now.
