If I put a KKM air intake will it affect me on passing smog or is the 50 state emissions legal thing only apply to laws in california?

I have heard rumors that CA won't pass it with a KKM, because they are not CARB Certified, whereas a K&N is.

I have also heard that a lot of places out there don't care.

If it were me, I would spend about 15 minutes and put the stock intake back on for testing purposes.

I know the guy who smogs mine so he lets me slide. Technically it wont pass the "visual inspection". Most places don't even know that its not stock. All up to you. As stated you could just throw the old one back in.

I haven't had any problems passing inspections (visual or smog) with my KKM. I have my stock airbox in my garage "Just in case" I'm every given a hard time.

In Our State the Mac is the only C.A.R.B certified open intake, good luck

Your state is the only state with CARB certification, hints the name.

And no, K&Ns are CARB certified also.

If the intake has the Calif, air resources Brd sticker, your good to go.
Do not believe the K&N is certified in calif but could be wrong

From their website:

6. Are K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kits – FIPK’s street legal and will I have a problem passing state vehicle inspections due to the altering of my air box?
K&N FIPK’s are legal in all 50 states. Each FIPK has been submitted and has received exemption by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Since California has some of the toughest emission laws in the country, their approval has been accepted as legal by other states. Each of these kits comes with a high temperature sticker with the CARB exempt “EOâ€￾ number. This sticker differentiates approved devices from non-approved devices. As long as you have the approved sticker you shouldn’t have any problems with vehicle inspections. Typhoon Intake Systems have either been submitted for CARB exemption or they already are CARB except. You can enter a part number on our search page to determine CARB status. Our AirCharger intake kits may not be legal in states where under the hood modifications are not allowed. Check your local laws if you are unsure

Good info
Thx Al

I heard you can just put a K&N sticker on the filter and the smog shop won't tell the difference.
Unless they punch the EO # in the system at say a test only shop

Whenever I get mine smogged, they don't say anything and pass me.
