While in for a routine oil change today the mechanic took me into the garage and showed me my front diff and explained to me the yoke shaft seal was leaking. There was a little misty oil around the shaft but no drips or obvious signs of leakage. Is this really a problem?

Also, I need brake pads, Are Autozone's Duralast gold ceramics any good? Also they have a Cmax Brand Pad for ten dollars more that's quieter? An input would be appreciated. Thanks

my rule, although it may not be correct, is to check if its full? Also how much of a leak? Any drops on the ground when parked? Is there any play in the driveshaft where it goes in the diff? Any vibrations from the front?
If all are no, i would just monitor it and make sure you don't really lose any fluid. If you have to refill in a month or sooner then yea its gotta be fixed, or you want piece of mind.

If you run it dry it can grenade on you.

I have to say I am very pleased with the Wagner ThermoQuiet pads. Not a peep out of the fronts or backs in over 15k miles. FWIW, I replaced rotors at the same time as I had a slight pulse coming off the front discs. I no longer have them cut....it's cheap enough to buy new.

that sal costs about $7.00 and takes mayb a half hour to fix, plus some fluid. the fluid should be changed anyway periodically. its not worth ruining a frt diff just change it.

I haven't noticed any drops in the driveway and it's in the same place everyday on clean concrete. I'm not positive on how to check the fluid level, i'll search it and see what i can find. Is it hard to change? I would up grabbing some Duralast Gold CMax pads. I'll probably install them Thursday, I'll let you guys know how they work out.

With brakes...you get what you pay for...when stopping...it is the last 15 feet you pay extra for not the first 15 feet..NAPA has great brakes! Stay away from brand x...and cheapies

I just had my seal done at 55k miles. It wasnt dripping, but saturated and flung a little oil up onto the oil pan. PLus extended warrenty covered it. :)

good luck

Mine is doing the same thing. Obvious drip and I am getting a slight noise/vibration in the front of the truck. I am going to change the seal out this weekend. That gets rid of the vibration I feel. See how it goes.

I've run the duralast gold and the brake dust is horrrrrriiiiiiblllllle....

I run Performance Friction Carbon Metallic and will use those until I die. Never thought a different brand of brake pads made that much of a difference...

The Duralast worked, but in my application they seemed to wear down pretty quickly. In less than a year I'd say. But I run an OEM rotor and those pads and am perfectly happy.
