So what's the deal with this new Apten Chip???

Ive been away for some time now, i come back and see all this talk about this new chip! I spent the last few days reading about the Apten chip. So is this like a must buy mod now, or what?

I heard Blackmagic is in love with it, but had problems?

So should i get in the group buy or what?

Id just like some more feedback, im still leary on the idea of chips.

I have an Apten chip and it has been totally trouble free, works as advertized and I am very happy with the chip and all dealings with Brian of Apten.

Since each chip is custom programed, it depends on what YOU want.

I had Brian make mine to perform at best possible fuel econnomy.

Ok, now i just did a search but couldnt come up with much.

Maybe you know? I see from most of the guys who have bought the chip seem to be newer Explorers, that are running 92 or higher. I run 87 or 89 and it looks like the programs for that gas doesnt give you all that much more performance. So for me to spend over $200 might not be worth it!??

Im trying to find some more info on this, not finding much.

If thats what you want, the Apten chip will meet your needs.

$200 for little to no gain is not worth it.

Again, it depends on YOU. If you want it burned for 87 gas, you will not get the power benefits of a 93 burn.

Apten's worth the money

I also got the Apten on the last group buy from Brian and while a few people had some initial problems, Brian was very good to work with, got everyone taken care of and did a good job communicating with people during the process. My chip worked right from the beginning. I installed it just as the instructions indicated (nervous over whether it would work and whether it was worth the money) and the truck fired right up. Excellent throttle response and firmer shifts. Money well spent even though it came with a 92 octane gas bill.

As far as performance on 87 or 89 octane, I suggest you talk (not just email) with Brian at Apten. He'll give you the honest good and bad about a chip burned that way. I do remember that at least one of the people in the group buy got his burned for 87, but don't recall who it was or if they posted results.

I can tell you that the only way that chip is coming out of the truck is to get a dual program chip or if I ever put a new cam in and will get Brian to reprogram it for me.
