So why can't we get a diesel car in the states?

Holy Crap! Anybody happen to check out the specs on the motor in that Touareg? 310 HP and 553 ft.lbs. of torque! Why such a huge motor in it? That thing would tow like a beast!

Yeah, unfortunately, its a really dirty motor. Too bad we don't have an option that would give us that grunt without filling the air with so many pollutants.

That same Prius doesn't do that well on the road though.:p:

Actually, my best mileage ever was on a road trip from Sac to Fort Bragg (on the coast). Going through the Napa valley, I got 51.9 mpg for the 250 mile trip. On our trip up to Portland OR last year, I got 49 mpg but had crosswinds on the whole trip up and back.

What do you consider "not that well"? My Explorer gets about 17 mpg at best. The worst I have ever gotten in the Prius was the first tank at 41 mpg.

My GF is buying a motorhome with a Ford V10 and the HP rating is the same but less torque. I have no idea why you would need that in a Touareg.

I was just saying that Hybrids usually don't do as well on the road as in the city. I needed something to come back with. ;)

Yep. The NOx is 3x more than the MB or the Dodge. I was surprised that the Dodge truck is that low for NOx.

I was trying to compare other diesel trucks, but they only show the gas powered Ford and Chevy.

My experience is that I get about the same mpg driving back and forth to work (why I bought it in the first place) as I do on longer trips. All other vehicles take a hit in city driving because the engine is idling, starting and stopping, etc. The Toyota hybrids shut down instead of idling and in stop and go, you are often just using the battery to move 5 feet and stop, etc.

So all the other cars don't do that well in the city. :p:
