Well....impressive.

I watched the slide show and can only comment...that the pics would have been better, if all of them were centered within the screen.

Aloha, Mark

WOW, that's nicely done!

Very nice writeup!

One question though, it says you did it on Jan 14, 2007, which is next week.

You also got a time machine in that garage? :D

oooops thats funny - it should say Jan 4th. ill fix it soon.

Verry Good, Nice photos too, and good right up.

How long did it take you to get the toque converter bolts lined up to the flywheel?

I image reinstalling all that wiring/ electronics and hoses would have been a PITA too.

Nice write up indeed. Thanks for the help!

you wont believe it - but i reacon it took 3 hours to get the converter bolts in and done up! Thats why i would be interested in any tips?
The reason was that the converter turns with the slightest of effort from the flywheel - and thus the bolts never lign up.
I wonder if you could jam the converter with some wood in the starter moter hole. then you could turn the flywheel with some pressure againds the bolts so that they would fall in?

And the wiring harness was real simple to take off and on. < 10 seconds. You do have to label all the open ends of the wiring and vac in the engine bad though to save some time.

Actually, the all thats nothing - the worst thing about the job was finding and undo-ing the 8 main housing bolts from the tranny to the engine - the good book said there were only 6.

I have a 99 4.0L SOHC w/96,000 mi on it. I wasn't able to take advantage of the 00M12 recall (my fault). My engine has been making the cluttering noise for the past 1 1/2 years and 20,000+ miles. Six months ago I had the lower and upper manifold gaskets replaced. It runs fine except for the cluttering noise. Am I being stupid by not replacing the chains, guides, cassettes, tensioners, etc. now?

Stick in the new cam chain tensioners in first and see what that dose, it’s a fairly straightforward Job just need to take the Intake manifold off to access them as they screw into the side of the head's

I'm not a do it your selfer so I'll have to find a shop to do it. Shouldn't I just have them do all the other stuff since they're opening it up anyways? I just don't want to spend more money in the long run by them fixing one thing at a time. Any thoughts?

Please describe the noise first - if its from the rear of the engine then first put in a new tensioner in the rear (see below), i believe you can buy the 00m12 kit for $33 at ford genuine parts, that kit has a new updated tensioner that places more constant force on the chain guide. thus at low rpm you get more force (as its oil pressure based).
This is very easy to put in - you just remove the air filter side tyre + curtain, unscrew the old one with a shifter and put the new one in. (you dont need the rest of the kit).

i thought id give you all an update on the SOHC rebuid.
well its been about 6 months since the rebuild and all is still going great with the engine.
I have installed 4700K HID lights about a month ago and thats about it.
I also put in that air intake temp resister mod to trick the computer into thinking it could burn more fuel, but that was a load of crap, the car missed and ran real bad, so i chucked it in the bin.
