Did a search (google and here) and finding different answers. Are all long blocks the same. The only difference I can find (from reading) is a balance shaft (2wd vs 4wd). Is this correct or am I not searching enough? Thanks for any help you can offer. If I am wrong what are the differences, thanks again.

balance shaft

I've read that some of the early Mustang SOHC V6 engines have the balance shaft even though none of them were 4WD. The 2002 and later long blocks should have the improved timing chain related components. The crankshaft harmonic damper/balancer was changed in the 3rd generation Explorers. The Mustang does not have the crankcase screen/breather that the Explorer has at the top rear of the block. There may be flexplate differences between the Mustang and the Explorer but I don't recall it being mentioned. Several forum members have swapped 2005 and later Mustang engines into their Explorers.
