I just purchased a 1997 Exlorer XLT with a 6 cyl. egine. Seller said the egine was the SOHC, but all that is stamped on top of the block is 4.0 EFI. Wouldn't SOHC be stamped on the block if it was indeed one? The egine does seem to have a lot more power than a 1996 6cyl. I test drove, so I'm not sure. any help would be appreciated.

On my 98, there is a large plastic cover over the top of the engine. Embossed on this plastic says 4.0L SOHC.

Was this topic posted before and I did respond? Anyway, I have a 1997 V6 SOH. Reading this topice made me open the hood of my explorer to check the stamp on the top plastic cover and it is 4.0 SOH{/B}

Yes, you did reply, and thanks!. The message seemed to dissapear and then reappear again, I'm starting to think that there are two seperate boards! I guess I have the regular 6 cy. EFI. But I like it all the same, although I might start looking in to ways to "beef it up" a little if it can be done fairly cheaply.

Hi Mike,
I noticed that you are from the Bay Area. :)
There are a few of us that go out to Hollister Hills every now and then and I was wondering if you would like to go out and have some fun with us the next time we all get together and do a run.

Yes! A run sounds great! Let me know when one happens. I've never actually been 4 wheelin' yet, so I suppose I better study up. In fact, my new Ford Explorer is the first "real" car I've ever been able to afford! (Everything I've had before this cost me $5K and less). But since I purchased it I've been wanting to utilize the 4wd. I think my family would enjoy it as much as me!
Cheers,
Mike
