Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has this same problem, and if it;s a problem at all!

I have a '98 SOHC 73K, dealer maintained.

I have noticed that sometimes "she" runs differently thatn other times.

Sometimes "she" will run super smooth, quiet (not much "in cabin" engine heard) and feels a little pepy'r also.

But.... Most of the time she runs rough, not like an irratic idle, or a miss, or pinging, but like the engine has less lubrication between metal to metal moving parts. There is more engine heard in the cabin, less spunkyness (if that's a word!) more vibration in the foot pedal ect...

What could this be?

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

1. If you were to accelerate to above 3k RPM and measured the amount of engine heard (sound) in the cabin in decibels it would be louder when it's not running super smooth.

2. If you were to accelerate to above 3k RPM and measured virbrations at the pedal you would find more vibration when not running super smooth.

Any ideas?

Would a synthetic run smoother? <-- A left field question that doesn't solve
the problem but I would like to know!

No Love on this topic?

What's up,

Do you hear a fast rattle when you start it cold that goes away after a few seconds? Do you hear a knock at idle? Do you hear a rattle when accelerating between 2000 and 3000 rpm's? Have you had the cam chain tensioner and guide recalls done? Click the first link in my sig and check out my story. Could be something similar.

I think I would clean the MAF and IAC. Next I would run some Sea Foam through the intake.

Hope that helps.

X24 ~ I do hear some knocking at idle, very little. No pinging, 00m12 done but not the other 0101m (I get the numbers all mixed up!) and you story was a very interesting read, I would have gone "postal" if someone did that to me!

Aldive ~ I will clean the IAC and MAF this week and let you know, but what is this seafoam your talking about?

Thanks,
Tonedog
