I would like to build a database of info concerning the SOHC engine and its timing chain woes. If you have or have intimate knowledge of a SOHC engine timing chain tensioner failure (or diag noise), please e-mail me with the following info...

Year model
miles (when problem showed up)
resolution (if any)

Thanks in advance...

Link is up to a very spartan database... http://home.hiwaay.net/~rmsmith/SOHC.htm

Well I just had mine done.
I have a 97XLT
It had 109K miles
They replaced the front cam tensioners, and so far so good.

2004 Explorer XLT V6 4.0 SOHC.....noise started before the 75,000 warrenty ended but dealer didnt write a ticket on it.
Changing oil and filters delayed diagnosis of the real issue. 130,000 noise got real obvious. Replaced both front and rear tensioners and issue has quieted but I feel
timing chain replacement and guide replacement is inevitable. Wrote and complained to Ford since this issue has been occuring since 07 or before. Of course they didnt do anything.
