My 94 Ranger 4x4 with 4.0 OHV and 5sp has been missing/stubling/shaking some but not all the time during acceleration. It did not effect the RPM gauge. I looked back at my server records and found that the orginal spark plug wires were still on after 117,000+ miles 
Swapped on a new set from the local NAPA and problem is all gone. $26 and 20 minutes, a 1 wrench project anyone can do.
