I have just finished up on my first clutch project, to various degrees of success. The truck starts fine, fires fine, shifts fine. However, the clutch pedal seems way too soft. I bled the slave cylinder by simply opening up it's bleeder valve, and letting it drip for a few mins. Is a bench bleed of the master cylinder necessary? The other issue I have is about a noise coming from under the shifter/gearbox. When in neutral, it sounds like sloshing liquids. It's constant until I depress the clutch, then it stops and everything sounds normal. Did I put too much trans fluid in? everything else seems to be doing good, I would just like to get an answer to these things before I venture to far from the garage.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the soft pedal if the clutch is disengaging when you push in on the clutch pedal and the clutch is not slipping when you drive it. Many times a new clutch will be softer than a worn out clutch. If you didn't replace the master cylinder and didn't run the fluid low in the reservoir, you shouldn't need to bench bleed the master anyway.

You can tell if you put too much fluid in the transmission by parking on level ground and removing the filler plug. That is also the level the fluid should be at. If it runs out it is too full. If it is well below the opening, you need to add more. I suspect you may have damaged the insulation when you removed and/or installed the transmission. Now, you can hear the sounds going on in the transmission better. Sloshing fluid is good. It means the gears are in contact with the fluid and are lubricated well. The fact that is stops when you push in on the clutch verifies the clutch is disengaging properly.

I doubt you have anything to be concerned about as long as the fluid is at the proper level.
