Just a few questions for you veterans that know...

1. What is the throttle cable mod for a '97 SOHC 4 door that I have heard about? Because I have recently had very slow starts...the kind where my truck doesn't even want to rev at a stop, even when I floor it to get going.

2. What is the A/C coolant that the '97 uses.

3. How come all the models of explorers have ton of mods to slap on the trucks except the SOHC? OHV's and V8's have a lot, but the SOHC doesn't...why not?

Thanks for the advice - John

1. Do a search, it supposedly give you better throttle response.

2. R134

3. Just wait till the new Mustangs are released.. Supposedly the SOHC motor is gonna be available in the Mustang therefore making more modifications & aftermarket parts available.

So it's hesitating to rev, or just doesn't want to rev? That is probably not your throttle cable's fault. Go open the throttle plate from under the hood and see if it hesitates there. If it does, your cable is fine. Could be a clogged MAF or something else.

As for the lack of mods, yes, the new Mustang will use the SOHC motor as its base V-6, and we should definitely see a lot of mods come available for it. The Essex 3.8 in the current Mustang has more mods and superchargers than you can shake a wrench at. :)

if it doesnt want to rev at all, then it isnt the throttle cable and there is some other problem...

the refrigerant your 97 uses is r134a not the r12 freon that was used in older vehicles

It's not that it doesn't rev...it revs fine ( my bad in explaining it), but it's just not fast off the line. When I floor it...it takes a while for it really get some balls behind it, like there's a lack of torque or something at low rpm. Before when I first got my new motor put in it...30,000 mile ago...it was the quickest non modified Expo I have drivin. But since then it seems to have lost some of it's get-up-and-go. If I floor it off the line it kinda says, "OK, I'll get there!" And then when I hit 10-15 mph and 1800-2000 rpm it starts to give me some muscle. Makes any sense?
I thought that there could be some simple mod to take up that slack...you know what I mean?

have you tuned it up since then? also you must reember that things get slower as they get older....

definitely tune that baby up!

Thanks, guys, for the advice. I will get it tuned! Sounds like the best choice so far...I guess it needs it.
