Hello all, my first post 94 Explorer, Auto trans. Very Cold yesterday<20 The wife backs
out of the driveway. Does her three point turn then cannot shift selecter into reverse or park again.
It will Shift into neutral and drive and 1 & 2. I drive it a couple of miles to my indie. Problem goes away when I arrive. He's too
busy to look at it anyway. Everything fine the rest of the day. This morning cold again, same problem happens. After warmed up problem goes away. Any one seen this before. I don't want her to get stuck somewhere and can't back out or turn off the vehicle. Thanks

dose it take a while for it to shift out of first when its cold? and dose the trany slip at all or did it before this started? check your fluid level. whens the last time it was changed? i recomend trying to change it it could be burnt and you could be on the way to messing up some spendy stuff.

Rosscup. thanks for the reply, No The transmission has no other issues.
I'm wondering if there is an electronic relay near the brake. Someone told me
I might have condensation in the interlock switch and it froze. This morning still cold. I warmed the vehicle blasting heat only to the floor. There was no problem.
Does the auto transmission have this interlock switch? I found one for about $60
on the internet. Thanks

Welcome to this forum! The average life is about 25-30k miles. Synthetic is rated for more mileage. Severe usage requires frequent fluid changes. The new transmissions are rated at 150k intervals, but I wouldn't wait that long. Fluid is still fluid no matter which transmission it's going into. As for the original problem, it could be related to the low/reverse servo O rings or the cover gasket. A stuck reverse modulation valve or a chipped servo could also be a problem. Connect a 0-300 PSI pressure gauge, and test the reverse pressure when this problem occurs.

Oh also, when the heats blowing on the floor, the(tranmission) seems to be sluggish in shifting????
Yes??
Yea, I know

yikes! i put in a re manufactured a4ld at 217k, now it's at 252k, i'm changing that fluid asap!!!

Damn cuzz,,,Im bout 2 get one wit 178K

let me rephrase, the transmission was pretty much new, the suv had a total of 217k miles... and im' at 252k now...

i like augusta, it's all right, but kinda slow and to much construction now. augusta and columbia county are tryin gto build up like ATL, but it ain't gonna happen.. i wish they'd realize that.
