Sonnax just came out with an updated crankshaft to flywheel spacer to prevent front converter seal leaks, and damaged flywheels. 2 different models are listed on page 99 in their new (volume 6) transmission specialties catalog. The part #s are: Sonnax 56000-CS6 6 bolts. 56000-CS8 8 bolts. The OEM version is powdered metal. Their version is billet steel. Their part adds 1/16" of pilot support compared to the OEM version, and helps prevent vibration, cracked flywheels, and converter misalignment. I called Sonnax 2X trying to find out which applications use the 6 bolt, and 8 bolt versions. They said that they would call me back once they have the information. So far, they are stumped. I called the Ford dealer, and they said my 93 with a 4.0 uses the 6 bolt spacer. Which vehicles use the 8 bolt version? Nobody knows. My ATSG A4LD update manual states on page 11 that the 6 bolt spacer is used on 2.8L, 2.9L, and 4.0L engines only. It recommends replacing this spacer when there is continuous front seal leakage, premature converter hub wear, bushing wear, and pump gear damage.
