It might have been, but everything else seems to be in good condition. I'm pretty sure it hadn't been 'wheeled because it didn't even want to go into low range at first.
Phil, I would get all of the fluids changed, have the belts and hoses checked/replaced, and check/replace the spark plugs, you never know what the preivous owner did, or when.
I also resent being called spoiled just because my parents baught my X for me, I take exclent care of it.
Thanks for the responses guys.
I guess you should know the whole story behind buying the Explorer.
First of all this vehicle was purchased because the seat height is just right for my son to get in and out of it, my son has Muscular Dystrophy and it is dif###ult for him to enter and exit most other vehicles.
Second he earned half the money that went into the purchase of it, we had a deal that if he worked and saved his money that I would help him.
I searched high and low to find a dependable vehicle for him and just want to make sure he doesn't get stranded.
I have been hearing a noise from the tranny but it goes away after the Explorer is warmed. I had planned on changing the tranny fluid and appreciate your input.
By the way the engine is a 4.0 SOHC and the vehicle has 63,000 miles on it and was a one owner vehicle, the outward appearance of it suggests that it was very well taken care of.
Thanks again guys and keep on feeding me advice about my sons first car.
What kind of tranny noise? When does it happen? I'd look and see if it has a factory tranny cooler, if not I'd consider one. At the local shop it was 100 installed, but it's not a big job. I'd make sure the heater temperature coltrols work in all of the settings, as they sometimes have issues in the Explorers, and it will be getting cold here soon.
The noise coming from the tranny is a buzzing noise that goes away after the car warms up.
I read in another post that there is a section here that details a fluid and filter change.
Where is it located?

This explains the "flush" method which almost completely flushes out the old fluid. The pan drop method removes a few quarts(4-5 I think) If you do the pan drop, you get to rplace the filter. If you decide to do the pan drop, make sure you check the valve body bolts. They often come loose. I'm not sure if there is a writeup on the pan drop. I'll lpoke around a bit, and see what I find.
Thanks for the responses guys.

I can sympathize with your son in having problems getting in and out of most cars, since I have the same problems due to arthritis in both knees....I agree, the Explorer's height is just right for getting in and out of.
You will find lots of info on the site Phil, just remember that the search button is your best friend.
