Dear Explorer friends!

I was on a tour 3000 miles around Europe with my 91 4x4 xlt.
Fortunately at the and in tha austrian alps -in 2500 m high- all of my automatic transmission oil was come out between the engine and the transmission, after I cant change to any speed it stopped.
Please if you have any tips how to repair it write me!
All thanks Dénes

You could also just have had a bad overheat episode aqnd the tranny vented fluid out the overflow tube. Try refilling the transmission and shift to D when doing uphill.

I had that hapen to me a few years ago and once refilled and with a ittle more attention to dropping it into D on long uphills I have not had any troubles since.

at 2500meters, your engines going to be struggling, along with the consistent up and down shifting, i wouldnt be surprised if it was the vent tube as glacier said. However, if your certain that it is from the seal then i gues your trip is over till you get it fixed.

Check the coolant level in the radiator first as recommended in the link before replacing the seal. Other possible causes of front seal leaks would be a bad pump bushing, and a cracked crankshaft to flywheel spacer. If you are at the point of replacing the seal, check those 2 things as well. That front pump bushing has to replaced by a shop with a special lathe made for this purpose. It's not as simple as popping out the old one, and driving in a new one.
