Can anyone tell me the proper spark plug gap on a 91 explorer 4.0 liter? I am changing them myself. I have a miss in my engine when I put it under a load, so I am starting with plugs and wires first.
I don't have a manual yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Karl

a call to your local auto store should tell you what it is.

I think I have read on this site that if you have a miss in your engine under load it could just be your MAF (mass air flow) sensor needing cleaning. You can find the instructions under Explorer tips on the main page.

Hope this helps

Karl,
From what I remember with mine, it is .054". I don't have my service manual with me but I am almost sure of this.

How can you tell when you've run out of invisible ink?

I think Ira is correct. Just lift up the hood and check one of the stickers - it has the info.

Gap is .054".

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like the
gap is .054 and I will also try cleaning the Sensor in the MAF.

Just closing here.
I changed the plug wires and plugs. Solved my problem with the miss.
I also cleaned the MAF sensor. That only took about 15 minutes.
Thanks for the help. I adjusted the gap to .054 and she's running smooth.
