I have a 1997 Ford Explorer 4x2 4.0 sohc. I'm having some difficulity. I just got done doing a tune up and I'm struggling on:

1. How to get the spark plugs and wires changed on the Passenger side. The drivers side wasn't that bad but the passenger side there is no room what so ever unless I start taking things apart. (I've heard you can take the tire off but will that really do you any good)?

2. I'm completely spacing where is the PCV valvue? Do I need to take off the plastic on top of the engine or is it just hidden somewhere?

Thank you so much.

Christopher

3. My Oil Pressure and 1/2 of my battery guage is going dark. It looks like a bulb burned out however I can't seem to get my hands behind it to take a look. (so how to change lights on instrument cluster).

Thanks

1. Yes, remove the tire and inner fender.. If you are replacing the wires as well, cut the boots so it folds off the plug.
2.I completely forgot where it is.. Follow the vacuum lines of the intake till you find it.
3.You need to do alot of removing. You need to remove all the plastic by your legs on the drivers side, the black surrounding the cluster and i think even the radio bezel.

Removing the wheel and inner panel will give you room to change the plugs on the passenger side. I would add you should use anti seize compound on the plug threads and it helps to use dialectic grease on the boots.

Can't help on the PVC valve.

Here is a thread on how to get to the bulbs in the dash.

Ford evidently never figured on bulbs burning out.

Thanks for the advice I have to work today So I won't be able to try until tonight. Wish me luck.

Hopefully the thread here helps with the pcv valve.

If you learn nothing else from this forum, learn that. You can't imagine how good that advice is.
