I got four used speakers online. Two are Sony Explods, max 140W XSR1310(5x7), two are Jensen XS1683 (6x8). Both sets are 3 way speakers.

It is my understanding that either will fit right in the door panels with no problems.

Now, here is my question. Which do I use in the front and which in the back?

I was planning on using the Sony's up front and the Jensens in the back because I thought the Sony's were better.

However the Sony's came a little jacked up and I will have to resolder some wires ( :fire:).

I want to put the ones with the better sound quality in the front. Frankly, volume isn't that important to me, at least not to the degree it seems to be with many of the audio people nowadays. I know these will be louder than the stock ones and I was fine with the stock loudness.

What I want is more clarity and a clearer bass.

I am leaning toward the Jensens, especially since I will do the soldering myself, and I am no genius with the Iron.

Now before you say that I shouldn't be cheap, or that I shouldn't mix and match speakers, lemme just say a couple things. I am not really an audiophile and have never been sophisticated about music. Heck I'm running my tunes through my Ipod with a cassette adapter. Its just that with the stock Explorer speakers when I played it loud, all the sounds got muddled up together. I'm going to be listening to mostly rap if that helps. The real reason I bought these is that they were 60 bucks (for all 4), and I would kick myself for passing up the chance at improving my commute for such little dough.

Thanks.

I actually thought that the sony 3-ways that I heard at best buy sounded ok, of course compared to infinity and the pioneers I ended up with they weren't too hot, but still ok. Pretty loud, way better than stock for sure.

If you can get the sony's working fine I would say great for the front, if you like the sound of one pair more though, you can always move um (takes about 2 minutes to take a door panel off after you figure out how the first time)

Thanks for the reply. I will see what happens, I am going to get my dad to help me with soldering the tweeter/midrange back onto the main speaker.

Do you know if I can get whatever tool I need to remove the door panel clips from Best Buy or Advance Auto Parts?

Anyone else have any experience with the Sony or Jensen speakers?

I got mine at Advanced Auto for $4.99

I got mine a long time ago for about the same price, except it came with a few friends. It is called a wide bladed flat head screw driver, and it works quite well.

Sweet, my dad and I got the tweeter soldered back on, so hopefully I will be able to run with the Sonys in the front. Hopefully it still works after all that :/
