Speaker Placement

Anyone ever put speakers in their rear hatch? I just saw them in a Cherokee and thought it was an awesome idea. I was thinking a pair of 6x9's perhaps...

Have fun running the wires. I was gonna put a couple amps back there, but really didn't want to spend the time messing with running the wires.

i don't think it would be that much trouble, just about the same trouble as running wires for amps, doesn't take THAT long, IMO it's a good idea, probably a moderate increase in SQ too.......

Except that you would have to run them up to the ceiling and then through the panel somehow, unless you just wanted to let them hang out in plain view.

There have actually been quite a few threads on this topic.

2 major issues:
1) rattling, noise proofing, and enough airspace (speaker issues) and
2) the hatch and hatch shocks being able to support them.

maybe it's a longshot but i bet it would be very possible, i could deal w/a little rattle and i'm sure that the rear air shocks would be able to support them, after all they're only 6x9's! And Shadow maybe wiring through the ceiling isn't necessary, it's easier to run through the floor....!

Not the suspension shocks, the liftgate shocks.

And you can't just run the wires through the floor as the hatch opens from the top

Time to put a few brain cells behind this idea!

just run the wires through where the lights for the 3rd brakelight and defroster wires run through......

ya sorry Alec-i thopught we were talking just about the cargo area itself, then we got into the rear hatch at any rate, i wouldn't put them in the hatch, rather pull out a dremel cut out some 6x9 opening's and put them there-is this thread really going anywhere anyways?

in between the rear seats and the actual hatch-in the 'middle' of the cargo area.......hopefully you understand where i mean.

No, in the cargo area isn't a problem. Just depends on if you want to mount them in the floor and build up the floor, or mount them in the side panels. As with any speaker install, noiseproofing and proper airspace are gonna be issues.

ya i put two 6x9s in the back of my explorer. it was easy but time consuming, and the sound s that much better. u have to take the back hatch plastic off and there are big holes in the door. i had to make custom wood plate so the speakers wold fit perfect. i had to cut the wood perfect and then mounted it to the hatch and then cut the holes out and put the speakers in. it is easy of u know what u are doin. the only hard part is makin the holes on the plastic the same size becuase if it is off a little it will not fit. make sure u make yur measurements perfect.... this is a one time only no mistakes,,, but mine came out great. when u run the wires i just drilled holes at the top and leave some slack for when u close and open your door good luck and any questions ask me

you put them in your rear doors?......i was referring to the rear cargo panels, one in each side, thats cool none the less tho, lets see some pics....

noooo.....LOL......i am not talking about the doors. I'm not talking about the hatch either i am talking about the rear quarter panels-cutting out an opening for a speaker there-only real problem would be an enclosure......got any pics of yours?

he means the sides of the cargo area!!! by the rear wheelhumps, in/on the plasticy panels, behind which lie the computer, stock amp, rear windshield washer fluid....IN THE CARGO AREA.......

6x9s in the rear hatch.... interesting
just for fun, I bought a set of audiobahn 6x9's, stuck em in sealed truck boxes and put em in the back, they sounded nice really rounded out the system...
