speaker size

Hi I was wondering what size are the speakers for a 98 explorer xlt the front and back doors? I have a pair of 6 1/2 that i want to install. if they are not are 6 1/2 is there any easy way i can modify the front doors to fit the 6 1/6 ?

5 1/4 round or 6x8/5x7 ovals will fit with no probs. I can't answer your mod question.

I tried to mod my 6x8's in my 99 sport and it did not work that well. If you have the money and the knowledge it can be done but it was beyond my scope of knowledge. So I just installed 6x8's!

If you can spend the money put 6x8 component speakers. I put type S Alpine in the front and rear of my 92 XL. They sound great and I can crank up the volume because they will take the beating.
