I have a 2000 ford explorer XLT and was wondering what size speakers will fit the stock holes. I've heard 5x7 and 6x8. Its the two front doors is all I'm swapping out. I know people say crutch field but I got different sizes there too. Thanks in advance. I'd pull the panel off and look but the clips always break so ill be buying new speakers and clips too just in case.

^x8s will fit but I would use a good 6.5 round 2 way

5x7 and 6x8 are usually the same thing..
They're the factory size. You could always put an adapter plate in to put a 6.5 in there.

But 6x8 is definitely the right size. Those will bolt right in.
Also, get the wire harnesses or butt connectors. ;)

I went with the kicker ds68's which are the 6x8s and they fit right in thanks. just wondering why there are 3 bolts in each speaker but 4 holes? they have never been changed out before and the door panel has never been off it my uncle bought it new and never had any work done to it. sound pretty good for $70 a pair too i was glad they came with the butt connectors and female plugs in the box so i didnt have to buy anything after, the only thing was the different colored wires i didnt know + from - so i did the battery test on them. front only cause the front shelled out, will do back ones soon.

Mine only had 3 screws too. Doesn't really matter. Lol.

As for the polarity, make sure you didn't mess up the + and -, or the speakers will not sound as good as they should.

I just held the wires together and started the car to make sure they were pushing out and not sucking in. got them both in and they sound great, will be doing the back soon along with a TT and longer shackles.
