Hey I was at autozone today looking for some header tape(for air intake) and notice these $20 open air filters The fit any 3' air intake tube and comes with clamps. They comein 4 or 5 different colors, I know these are in the ricer area of autozone, but my truck wires and etc in the engine are yellow on my truck and that would look cool with that same color on the air filter
I did some checking up. and they are just like K&N,SBK etc. You oil them each year and last forever, per the web site and some notes on other message boards.
Has anyone ever tried these? any good or bad, They also sell these at summit racing....

Thanks in advance!

i saw the same thing and was planning on making the adapter and getting that. thats not a bad deal considering a new intake can be made for about $25.

My brother lives in rockford. I was up there 2 weeks ago.

I was at another autozone here in town today and for $32 they had a chrome air intake tube with the holes in fro the hose. I measured it, and will look tonight to see if this is the same lengh as mine, if so. I'll probably get that. filter, chrome tube,adapter...all for $60....

ELK_HUNTER you have the OHV v-6 correct? if so let us know if the chrome one will fit on your without major modifying to the tube. you might have to drill one of the small tubes out to get the eletrical connection thingy in the tube.

just wondering i have looked at those before also but havent had the time nor the money to get back up there to look.

yep that's correct.

I forgot about that other hole/plug that I need. the only thing i can thank is that it is too short. But I think it will still work fine. I dont know of the top of my head the lenght of the stock air tube. If need be I'm sure a few inches of pcv will be fine to get the length the same.
I also didn't look to see the diameter of the tube, but i'm sure it's 3' since that is the openning for the air filter that goes with it.

You may want to check into the quality of the cotton in those filters. I remember reading somewhere that the cheap ones will shed and screw your MAS.

I don't know though.

Good luck

Personally I would stick with a K&N filter or those new powershot(?) filters by Holley. The ones at autozone dont look very good quality wise compared to the K&N but thats just my opinion.

They're not as good quality as SB or KN filters. I picked one up one day and my finger punched a hole through it! Needless to say I put it down very quietly and went to the tool aisle ;)

spectre air filters are ok.... they will work in a pinch and are more high performance than a paper fram one.... but are not a K&N

I have the chrome one installed on my X.
