Does anyone happen to know the stock gear tooth count on a 97 5.0 Limited AWD 3.73? I'm traveling for work and would like to get it ordered so its sitting on the table when I get home.

Thx

Not 100% sure about the '97, but most Gen II Explorers don't use a speedo gear to tell the speedo how fast you're going. Instead they use a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) which uses hall-effect to send a signal into to the PCM and then the PCM sends info to the speedo. The newer Gen II's VSS is located on top of the rear diff. In the older Gen II's I believe the VSS was located in the transmission or transfer case (if 4WD).

To re-calibrate your speedo for a different gear ratio, I believe you need to get the PCM reprogrammed. Some of the phone apps available may also allow you to change this parameter parameter yourself through your OBDII diagnostic port.

Yeah I'm not 100% sure either. All the post I've read have been 97 and below use a gear and 98 above use VSS.
