Hello All,
2 Questions.........Do you have to leave a message in the "New Guy" forum before you can anywhere else?
Anyway, I have a 96 Explorer. 4.0 w/Auto trans. The speedometer is bouncing around and sometimes the transmission shifts weird. I changed the speed sensor and still got the bounce. Any ideas?

No.. You don't have to but its just a place we like new users to introduce themselves but since you already did here, it doesn't matter. In regards the the speedometer bouncing.. Do any of the other guages bounce? The shifting wierd could be transmission fluid or system related. Even electronic since the transmission is controlled electronically.

All other gauges are fine. When we hooked up the scanner to it the mph on the scanner also jumped around. Before I changed the speed sensor, I took it to a transmission shop and they said the tranny was fine and they did service on the tranny. At that time the speedo bounce wasn't as bad.

And I thought it was only on the first generation explorers. Mine quit once winter was over here. I don't really know what caused it. It was probably frozen in mine, because for awhile, we had trouble getting temps in the +degrees her this winter. Anyway, welcome to the forum.

This Is My First Day Online

Hello everyone,
I think this is a fine website...and I have only been on for about 1 hour. I own a 97 2WD 5.0L V8 Explorer. I have had it since new and it has performed perfectly until now. I have just one minor problem in the brakes, and I think I will go back to Ford Rotors and things should be fine.

I am an old Marine Corps veteran..retired after 23 years, and now a Technical representative for the Dept Of The Navy out of San Diego. I havd done all of the work on my cars myself..(except for warranty work someone else pays for). I have been in the Ground Support Equipment Field for about 32 years, and love traveling around the world helping Sailors and Marines keep out equipment up, and our airplanes flying. I work in San Diego, and live up north in Vallejo, California near San Francisco.

I am sure that this problem with my Explorer is minor. It has been a great vehicle, and in many respects works as good as new.

Anyway, I am hoping to spend many hours online talking to other folks who like cars like I do.
